The State of Arizona granted power to the City of Tucson to serve the needs of its citizens and work collaboratively with state and federal agencies on local issues through the City of Tucson Charter on February 7, 1929. The government of the City of Tucson is a mayor-council consisting of six (6) council members, one (1) from each ward. They shall be nominated, elected, and have such powers and duties as are provided by its Charter.
